Dr. Matthew J Major, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Biomedical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University (NU), Chicago IL, and a Research Health Scientist at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago IL. He is a core faculty member of the NU Prosthetics-Orthotics Center where he is Director of the NU Master’s in Prosthetics and Orthotics Research program and Director of the Prosthetics and Orthotics Rehabilitation Technology Assessment Laboratory (PORTAL). Dr. Major’s research focuses on the design and optimization of user-centered therapeutic and assistive device interventions to enhance the functional independence of individuals with mobility impairments due to musculoskeletal or neurological pathology. He serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Prosthetics & Orthotics and Scientific Committee of The Orthotics and Prosthetics Foundation. He is Chair of the Scientific Committee of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics, and is an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Biomechanical Engineering and the IEEE International Consortium for Rehabilitation Robotics.
