BOC and The O&P Foundation Launch the Margy Imlay Memorial Scholarship

Honoring Compassionate Care and Advancing the Next Generation of Mastectomy Fitters

The Orthotics and Prosthetics Foundation for Education and Research (The O&P Foundation), in proud partnership with the Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC), announces the launch of the new Margy Imlay Memorial Scholarship, honoring the life and legacy of Margy Imlay – a respected educator, advocate, and compassionate caregiver in the field of post-mastectomy care.

Margy Imlay dedicated her career to helping women rebuild confidence and comfort after breast surgery. As a BOC Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF) for more than 20 years, she combined exceptional clinical skill with deep empathy, mentoring others and advancing awareness for quality mastectomy care. Her passion for education and patient-centered service continues to inspire clinicians and caregivers across the profession today.

This new scholarship will carry Margy’s legacy forward by supporting aspiring Certified Mastectomy Fitters who embody her spirit of service, compassion, and professionalism. Through this partnership, BOC and The O&P Foundation seek to ensure that high-quality mastectomy care remains accessible to all who need it.

About the Scholarship

The Margy Imlay Memorial Annual Scholarship provides financial support valued at $1,600 to assist candidates to pursue BOC Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF) certification and professional development. Each award includes funding toward educational coursework, certification and renewal fees, continuing education, and registration for the POWER Symposium — a premier conference for post-mastectomy professionals.

Eligible applicants must be actively pursuing CMF certification, have at least 120 hours of direct patient care experience related to mastectomy fitting or breast prosthetics, and demonstrate a strong commitment to compassionate patient care and community service.

Honoring Margy’s Legacy Through Education

Margy Imlay embodied compassion, skill, and an unwavering commitment to helping women regain confidence after breast surgery,” said BOC President & CEO, Judi Knott, MA, MBA, CAE. “Through this scholarship, we celebrate her life’s work and help ensure that her example continues to inspire the next generation of mastectomy fitters.”

Fanny Schultea, Executive Director of The O&P Foundation, added, “The Margy Imlay Memorial Scholarship reflects the heart of what both of our organizations represent- investing in people who improve patient care through empathy and excellence. It’s a privilege to partner with BOC in honoring Margy’s remarkable contributions to this profession.”
